Although not yet FDA approved, research has shown that Bone Marrow Stem Cells are safe and effective treatments for many causes of neck and back pain.
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)Therapy -also just known as BMAC aka stem cells
BMAC Therapy involves using stem cells from your own bone marrow to stimulate healing. Your bone marrow contains powerful cells, including stem cells that can promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation and improve function of joints, tendons, ligaments and the spine. BMAC can be used to help with degenerative spinal conditions, intervertebral disc disorders, arthritis, cartilage damage, tendon, labral, or rotator cuff damage, and other neuromusculoskeletal ailments.
Bone marrow is removed from the iliac bone, which is located on both sides of the pelvis. The bone marrow is then placed in a centrifuge before the isolated stem cells can be obtained. Your physician will then take your isolated stem cells and inject them into the painful or injured area using image guidance.
This is a minimally invasive procedure under conscious sedation performed without an incision.
BMAC is considered safe as it contains your own stem cells that can promote healing of injured or damaged tissue.
Bone marrow stem cells are precisely injected into the spine and supporting structures live X-ray guidance. These cells release bioactive proteins that initiate healing and spinal regeneration. The expected result is for pain and inflammation to gradually resolve, and the health and function of the spine improves over time.
It is not instant relief, but a gradual progression towards improvement. However, there are studies supporting the positive outcome of this treatment, such as The Analgesic Efficacy of Intradiscal Injection of Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate and Culture-Expanded Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stromal Cells in Discogenic Pain: A Systematic Review.
At the aspiration or injection site; mild to moderate pain or discomfort, rash, itching, infection.
Uncommon risks include, but are not limited to; nerve damage, injury to surrounding nerves, temporary or permanent symptoms.
THIS is WHY you need a highly trained physician, specializing in spinal injections in a safe specialized environment.
Placement of a needle into the spine- vertebral disc or facet joint, is a difficult and potentially dangerous procedure. This procedure should always be carried out under fluoroscopic (real-time x-ray) guidance by a physician highly trained in this technique.
Our board-certified anesthesiologists and pain management physicians perform this procedure.
They have performed thousands of intraspinal, intradiscal, intra-facet and paravertebral injections and procedures.
Injections are performed under live X-ray guidance at an Ambulatory Surgery Center certified by NY State Department of Health.
All the spinal structures are targeted (muscles, ligaments, joints, nerves and spinal discs.

It is a normal part of the healing process to experience “roller coaster “syndrome, where you feel great one day and for no apparent reason the area treated starts to hurt again.
You may start to notice some level of improvement in 4-6 weeks after your procedure, though this can vary, for some it may take longer. Everyone responds differently, and while many do experience relief, positive results cannot be guaranteed.
